TR2/3/3A tr3 rear brake band installation question

I have new brake lines installed on my freshly painted axle but am curious about the bands. I have 3 bands about 18" long, but it seems as though about 8" would do. Should it be cut first, or is it supposed to be rolled all the way up? Does it go around the axle twice?

I did those clamps this weekend - I only used two however as I'm not sure where the third one goes. The one in your picture, I positioned roughly midway between the rubber buffer and the start of the differential housing. I put the twist part of the clamp at the top, fed the banding through the clamp, clipped off leaving only about 1/2" excess, and tightened down with a screwdriver (only about 1 rotation). Only rolled it around once. Not sure if that is exactly stock, but it seems to be holding - there wasn't really any play there even without the band clamps.

Here is a picture of the left rear showing the placement of two of the bands. In fact I think its one Don Elliot sent me. The third one goes on the right rear.

Yep, I've seen Don's picture before and have a copy of it on the wall in my garage. But it's not clear enough to tell if the straps go around twice. Frank, your project looks amazing. I see now the detail in the parts book, but also see that #24 in the "no. per unit" column, says 3 -though only 2 are pictured.

Your SS wire looks as you've used one of those fancy tools to twist it perfectly. Very nice. I think I used bailing wire as my SS wire wasn't heavy enough and kept snapping before it was tight.

I used to think I was good at paying attention to details...

My car only had one clamp on the drivers side, and I'm fairly certain it was original. My commission is TS45000ish, I wonder if eventually the factory went from 3 to 2?

And since there are lots of parts listed but not illustrated, I would be much more inclined to believe the listing.

Besides, the 3rd clamp will certainly not hurt anything; and it might save you from a brake failure. Lotta vibration along that axle ...

Randy, are you kiddin' We're lucky that we got a spare in the boot. Triumph was always strapped for cash and that would have saved at least a shilling or two!
