TR2/3/3A TR3 Rack and pinion conversion

Does anyone have experience with this conversion. Is it worth while and if so which supplier has the best product. As I need to rebuild the stock steering box, this seems a good time to consider options.
Thanks and seasons greetings to all.

I just completed the conversion on my TR3A three weeks ago. At this time there is only place that I found that has the conversion. There used to be a place in Virginia but his supplier stopped making them and he was trying to get them made in Taiwan.

British Parts Northwest gets them from a British company and they are mfg in Germany. The quality of the parts are excellent and the directions came in two languages, German and French. I called and they sent me the English version which was a half a page. The German instructions were about 10 pages.

A friend helped me and we completed the project. It would be a lot easier if the front clip and radiator are removed.

If you want to e-mail me with your phone number I will call you with more details. Now that it is done it makes the car handle like a real sports car.

Hogwash Murray!

A properly rebuilt and adjusted worm & peg steering box will handle just fine. At least you will not be standing on the slippery slope of removing the fan / installing an electric fan / installing an alternator to power the fan!!!

I did my conversion almost 6 years ago. Got it from the folks in VA. Kit came with everything needed including a fan. Took about 10 hours total working with stands and a floor jack. It would take less time but while I had it apart I replaced all of the bushings and added a front sway bar.
The choice is really a personal thing. The original box works fine when rebuilt, but I'm tall and wanted a smaller steering wheel. I also wanted my wife to be able to drive the car with the smaller wheel and the only way to get the easier steering was to go to rack and pinion.
I have not touched it in six years and the car still drives and tracks perfectly.

Thanks for the feedback. In spite of the wife's objections I plan to do the conversion. This unit will likely come from Harolds Triumph.
