Hi all I think I remember seeing a post that talked about have keys made for a tr3 off the key codes? If that is true, could a person have keys made to fit say a lock 066 and have that work in the old lock? I am asking because I was cleaning up my old boot lid handle and noticed some code numbers on the handle.
Steve

Correct! Some local locksmiths might be able to do it; more likely, you'll want to contact someone like Pete Groh (among others). I'm not 100% positive, but I suspect your code actually is 990 (likely FS series, and perhaps a later replacement lock, although it seems the FS series only went up to 955?) or yet something else, as these weren't always stamped with the greatest precision!

I gotten keys from Pete and also George Richardson -- the great thing about these keys is that they are original keys, often with a patina of use. I think they buy up odd lots of old keys to hopefully have on hand the number you need.

This is a great service to the hobby, they're certainly not going to get rich doing this. I've bought from both as what one doesn't have sometimes the other does.

Steve,

I checked with Pete regarding getting keys for my TR3 (no keys at all) and my second TR4A (missing trunk/glovebox key) and he had original keys for each. I'm about to send the order off to him. Very helpful and quick e-mail response.

I was going to get additional keys for my first TR4A and 1972 Triumph Tiger (which also uses a Wilmot Breeden key) where I still have the original keys but at $25 each, I think that I can make do with the originals since they still work.

FWIW, you can buy key blanks from TRF (or eBay) for just a few $$, and have a local locksmith copy your original key to the new blank.

But check with the locksmith first, as he may have access to the proper blanks (and is going to charge you for it anyway).

Randall,

Interesting that at the bottom of the link you posted, TRF also has original pre-cut FP and FS keys as well for only $11.99!

That is interesting, Scott. Unfortunately, I don't think my locks have the codes on them, and I have no idea how to work backwards from a physical key to the code.

In a "duh" moment, I just remembered something. I just stumbled across some interesting eBay listings. Go to eBay and search for

<span style="font-weight: bold">romac key</span>

You should turn up a large number of store listings for FA and FP series keys from "Vintage Imports Inc."; I just got two of these Romac keys for my car. NFI, other than it was a pretty good price for "genuine NORS" keys (not Wilmot Breeden, but a UK product, and they DO have the key number on them)!

Origianl precut keys came today from the Roadster Factory. The one for the TR3 worked the ignition and trunk lock which it should have as the codes matched there and also worked the glovebox where I didn't see a code which matches Don's car where the same key fit all locks. Couldn't get either door lock to turn but I also didn't have any lubricant and the car has been sitting since 1975.

I also bought one for the ignition and doors of my second TR4A which worked fine as well. Unfortunately they didn't have keys to match the code for that car's trunk and glovebox locks. I might splurge and get an original from Pete just so I have 1 set of original keys for each car (or maybe ask the wife for an early Anniversary gift).

Hi all well I got some keys from TRF and the one worked fine, but the other, the 099 or 066 does not work . Perhaps it is not the fp sires so I am not sure what to do at this point. The trunk and both door locks have the same code. I am thinking I will try to yahoo the guy that Goe suggested. Does anyone have his number?
Steve

As I suggested before, I don't think there were any Wilmot-Breeden key series whose numbers began with "0"; therefore, I think we're looking at either 990 or 660. 990 isn't in either the FP or the later FS series, but 660 is within the FP series.

Or, they're completely different locks that happen to fit as do Wilmot-Breeden locks?
