TR2/3/3A TR3 Interior questions

I'm finally in the last stages of getting my TR3 back on the road--she's survived hurricane Wilma and my ham-fisted attempts at restoration. Now to tackle the interior. I have purchased a complete carpet and panel kit, and since the carpet I removed was far from OE, I'm not sure how the new stuff is installed.

My question is this: which pieces are glued in, and which pieces use snaps (and where do they go)? What about the "fuzzy seals"? How many finish screws are used in the door and rear panels? Does the rear tunnel cover overlap the front tunnel cover, or vice versa?

I realize that this is asking for a lot of detailed information, but I've spent a great deal of time (and money) to get this right and I don't want to screw it up at this stage of the game

I applaud your desire to 'get this right'. I am away from home this week and can't give specific answers but a couple of comments & an offer:

The screws for the panels you asked about... did they supply phillps heads screws? Some of the suppliers send phillips but my recollection is that the originals were oval-head slotted.

I would avoid gluing any of the carpet (expect perhaps the kick panels). I think you will find it stays put with just snaps and clips (or even w/o). I've heard it can rain from time to time in West Palm and sooner or later you'll be caught topless and want to get all the yard-goods out for thorough drying.

The offer: Would you like a copy of the Triumph Register of America (TRA) concours guide for TR2 & TR3)? It is an exhaustive compendium of the minutia examined in a concours competition and a fascinating read even if one isn't striving for perfection. Its a reasonable attachment (PDF) which indicates it may be freely distributed.

P-mail me if you want a copy (same offer to anyone else).

I was gonna add my two cents, but it looks like Geos' got ya covered.
Geo, You've got P-mail /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I installed a Complete interior in a TR3B. I did not glue any of the carpet. The floor pieces under the seat are held in place by the seat slides. The front pieces of carpet are held to the bulkhead by spring clips and held to the floorboards by snapsin the corners of the carpet where it meets the piece under the seats. The carpet over the transmission tunnel is also held in place by snaps located close to the bottom of the tunnel. I used velcro strips to hold hold the kickpads in place . They are are also attached by screws along the edge of the door. Those screws also hold in place the fuzzy strips. Finally, I also attached the carpet on the rear shelf under the rear seat with velcro. I know that velcro was not available in 1962 but it allows easy removal and no one can see it. Regarding the doors, I looked at photos in The Original TR2-TR3B (Piggot) as well as cars at several shows and noticed that there did not seem to be a consistent pattern. I spaced screws according to holes already in doors from PO's and in what appeared to me to be both effective at holding the door pad and visually pleasing. Hope this helps. GGK

Thanks, that gets me started in the right direction! What about the covers that go over the wheel wells(?) on either side of the back seat...are they glued in? So many questions, when will it stop????

Pads are first glued ( upholestry glue) over the wheelwells. The vinyl cover is then glued in place. TRF kit was well made and fairly easy to use. GGK
