Gents, Am returning from Afghanistan tomorrow and want to work on my '56. Before I left, 6 months ago, the car was hesitating/bogging under acceleration. I could slowly get her to speed by slowly applying the pedal. She had been running great. Don't have a lot of time before I return so was hoping for suggestions. Thanks

Lots of things could be to blame:
-Make sure your SU carbs are in sync, that definitely can cause those symptoms. Also ensure your dashpots are filled to correct levels with oil (to eliminate fluttering.)

-Check your timing.

-Ensure your coil and coil wiring are all fine.

-If all of those are correct, make sure your distributor weights aren't shot. It's also possible that your fuel pump is beginning to fail.

Congrats on the return-- What'cha been up to over there?

On my old MG I had the same problem and it was a major vacuum leak.. On My TR, had a brief prob with carb(s) being too lean for the cooler weather (no choke connected)The leanness was no biggie to adjust-- still need a part for the choke. Pete

I'll do a tune up but suspect a carb issue. I will prob replace some of the ignition elements too. I'll let you know how it works out
I'm training the 205th Afghan National Army Corps in Kandahar. I'm retired military and got bored with civilian life so here I am.

Whenever a car sits idle for long streches you should suspect fuel problems, water and its evil twin rust can clog any filter. You will also find that gas nowdays lasts no time before going sour since they dont put in the stabilizers they used to when it cost less ......???
Just cause it ran when parked is no reason to think it still will.
