GT6 TR3 GT6 Tropical fan

Someone recently sold a tropical fan on ebay stated to be for an TR3. Just last night I was looking at an old repair manual that had information on the 4 and 6 cylinder engines in it. It had a picture of the GT6 fan and it sure looked like the one that sold on ebay. 6 blades and the mounting holes looked to be the same. Are these fans interchangeable? I'm I correct in thinking that the Tropical fan was an option for the TR3?

Keith-

I'm not sure what is a legitimate 'tropical' fan as I've read a lot of debates about it, but I do believe the GT6 or Vitesse 6 blade fan is a direct bolt on if you can locate one. I think they were optional for the TR3, they certainly were for the TR4.

What with that? They made of Palm frowns?

Thanks for the information. More places and options to look for.

Just saw a listing for one on ebay starting at $80. I see them a couple of times a year and usually go for around $120 at auction.

TR's were shipped all over the world, and some times to places that had "TROPICAL" climate and thus the conventional fan was considered inadequate.

Yes, well, the TR heater and its fan could certainly warrant a "for tropical conditions" rating.

great restored piece, I've never seen one before and thought I had ref the ebay sales.
Looks like a pretty heavy unit.

I don't understand why Triumph didn't fit all TR3s with these fans.
Maybe because they suck power (and fuel) ?

They're not much more than the stock fan. The blades are aluminum so it's just the extra weight of the hub.

Where did you find it Peter, I've never seen one for sale. It would rob some power though but would be helpful in the Az heat.
O noticed a dif when I dropped the lump /fan up front in revving.

Just keep looking. I see them for sale from time to time. Even saw a NOS one on ebay earlier this year. Rarely are they listed on ebay as "tropical fan."

And rarely do they go for little $$. But the one in the photo above was listed as a TR6 fan and I picked up that one for my 4A for just $15 years ago. Deal of the decade. Of course, it needed a complete makeover to look that good.
