TR2/3/3A Tr3 glove box padded ?

Does anybody know if the glove boxes had a slight padding on them from the factory or not? I have one with a slight padding and another that is vinyl just glued to wood. It actually looks like the unpadded is the factory. Any help is appreciated.

The glove box for the TR3A is made of stiff cardboard which has a flocked finish on the inside. By flocked, I mean it is the same colour as the TR interior trim and it has a surface that is much like velvet bonded or glued to it. Or it may have been spray applied. But no judge at TRA or VTR has ever asked me to open mine in a concours. And for 15 years (83,000 miles) I have been showing my TR many times in national events.

From the description I think George may mean the cubby box door. I believe these were vinyl covered wood with no padding.

I've heard that some dashes were fully glued and others edge glued. Mine were the latter. The same variation may also exist among cubby box doors, but mine was only secured at the edges.

Agreed, Geo. Mine was plywood, with the vinyl glued around the edges. Once I got the old vinyl off, I discovered that the plywood had gotten wet and separated at some point, so I cut out a new piece using the old one as a pattern. Recovered it with the vinyl from the interior kit and it came out looking fine.

Sorry for the confusion; I did mean the door. Thanks Geo you are always helpful and provide many sound answers. Tell me Mickey when you bought your kit did it come with some extra vinyl to do the glove box door. I bought this kit a while back and when I cut the glove box opening out, I realized that I would not have an exact vinyl match to clue to the door. I looked through my vinyl stuff and could not find the same grain.

FWIW, I recovered the TR3A dash with the Moss interior kit and it included enough separate vinyl for the cubby box door (and rear cappings).

Bought my kit from The Roadster Factory, and it had all the pieces. Later I ordered a little extra material from them (just in cast), and it has come in handy. But the kit included a piece for the door.
