TR2/3/3A TR3 Gearbox Top Cover OD Switch Locations

Gentlemen,

I don't have my car at home to check and can't find a specific reference, so the more naïve question first. Do the TR3/3A non-OD gearbox top covers have pre-tapped holes for the OD switches, or just the raised areas where they should be located? Is there such a location for an optional reverse light switch? I understand the switches are all the same.

Regards,

Walter

Non-OD covers just have bosses where the switches would go (not drilled & tapped).

I have never added a reverse switch so cannot say for sure where that would go.

It varies, some early ones do have 1, 2 or 3 holes drilled & tapped (with brass plugs). I'm not positive offhand, but I believe the third boss visible in Geo's photo above is where the reverse light switch would go. However, note that it needs to be fairly accurately located and may not be centered in the boss. It's also a somewhat unusual metric size.

I have two TR3 tranny's (both in the 59000's) that have the two bosses with brass plugs. So these were not overdrive trannys but they do have the brass plugs where the switches go. But only two plugs. The TR6 overdrive tranny I have does have the third switch and it is located where that third boss is on the top in the photo.

Thanks for this, Charley. I'm checking to see what I have, including the tranny number. My car is TR52910L so if the tranny is original, it should be in the same groups as yours, I think. No fun when the car is four states away!

Walter
