TR2/3/3A TR3 Fuel LIne

Sorry, but I disagree. The line from tank to pump is 5/16" but the pressure line from pump to carbs is 1/4". There is a special adapter nut at the pump, so the 1/4" line fits the 5/16" fitting on the pump.

Randall, is the pump similar to a 6's pump. What is the threads on the pump? 3/8's pipe by any chance? Are they the same on both sides?

I'm not familiar enough with the TR6 pump to answer that question, Don. The TR3 pump uses 'reverse' compression fittings (nuts have male threads), so definitely not tapered pipe threads. But I'd have to go measure a nut, to tell you the thread size/pitch.

Unfortunately, they also used a special ferrule (compression sleeve); modern sleeves don't fit quite right and frequently leak. Someone put up a web site showing how to 'siamese' two ferrules, but I wound up making a replacement nut anyway that was enough longer to seal with a modern ferrule.

I have seen people jam tapered pipe fittings in, though, and get away with it. The metal of the pump body is fairly soft, so I would guess the threads are deforming to match the fitting. Haven't tried that myself, though.

Thought about what I asked after I submitted it and actually went in to delete the question but then changed my mind. It dawned on me the way the fuel pump routes the line and that it is a hard line so the question to me was moot.
Thanks for the answer though. I'm sure it is relevant and informative to a few people out there.
