TR2/3/3A TR3 fuel cap install question

I don't want to sound stupid but how do you install the hose between the top of tank and the extension that the cap screws into? There is no room under the body of the car and the top of the tank. The tank is no longer straped down. Do you have to force the extension onto the hose. This should not have to be this hard to do.

I recall struggling with that too and thinking the same thing - it shouldn't be this hard.

I think in the end I took a hack saw to the hose and shortened it a bit.

In my post 60k, I place the hose and fitting on the tank, shoved all the way together and with the clamps loose. I angled the tank into place top first. The hose and fitting were worked back into position and the clamps tightened. A little tricky, but it worked.

It's on, what a pain. Thanks guys

In my pre-60k car, I was able to install the tank first. Then before the cap, the clamps onto the neck loose, and then the rubber hose through the hole onto the tank. Then the cap into the rubber hose. It is a knuckle buster.

Brings back memories. Yep it is a tight fit and I think I shortened the hose too. I agree thinking it was way to difficult for a "simple" job. Cheers, Mike

.....but where are the pictures?

Here's a picture wiuth the tank in position, the rubber hose inserted through the deck hole, then the filler grommet inserted into the hole, before the filler cap. Note: I have modified my pre60k car to accept a post 60k tank -because a fellow member gave me one to use, and I can't seem to pass up free, not matter how more work it ends costing me...

I think the hose is cut long enough for the post-TS 60000 TR3As. I cut mine shorter in 1990 during my restoration - but I also have an early TR3A as Keith (TR3) and Luke have.
