I'm buttoning up the front of the TR3 engine, and noticed that a section of the gasket is sticking out from the block. Were these gaskets made to fit another application? I presume I should just cut it off, or am I missing something here?? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

The TR3 engines were used by a lot of different car builders and this is a normal issue. You may cut it of for appearances sake or paint it black as everything else. It will tear when bell housing bolt gets tightened.

Agree with Larry - probably due to the TR3 and TR4 using a different front plate but which share a common gasket.

Don't mean to question you Larry but, maybe you're thinking about a rear engine plate on a TR6? TR3 doesn't have a rear gasket or plate between the bellhousing and engine.

But the gasket will still tear when the timing cover bolt gets tightened.
