Is there a standard or recommended step by step procedure for fitting tr3 body to the chassis?
I got a mounting kit with the car, and the doors ,hood and trunk appear to fit well with body just resting on chassis, although there are some gaps between mounts and frame.
I still I need to lift body off to paint, but figured there must be a recommened method.
Thanks
Tom

Tom the body needs to be braced before it comes off. If not done you could do serious damage to it. Mine came off in two pcs. ):
Roger Williams book on restoring the TR2-3 series has some good info and methods for the bracing. Once you put it back on you should worry about the gaps after the engine tranny and running gear is on and it is on the ground with wheels.

I think I have some pictures of mine in the braced mode. After I post this I will rummage around and see if I can find them and post them for you.

Cheers, Tinkerman

Tom apparently I did not take pictures of the bracing. Generally what you need to do is brace between the A and B post on both side of the body and then between the posts crosswise. You just need to eliminate any bending or twisting that might occur.

Hope this helps, Tinkerman

Here's a shot of how I braced mine. The angle iron going across between the braces has a hole in it so I could lift the body tub off the frame. That position perfectly balanced the tub. I lifted the tub using an engine hoist that has wheels. This made it easy to move outside of my small garage while I worked on the frame etc.

Glad you had a photo Art, I thought I had some just can't find them. Sometimes I'm not too good about putting everything in the proper folder, heh.

Art,

How did you calulate the position of the cross bar and the hole so that it was balanced?

I made a good guess... It is very close to the center of the tub. The hole is in the center of the cross piece. Remember, this is the tub without any of the panels on it. No wings or lids or apron...although I did have doors on every now and then to check fit, but they didn't affect the balance much at all.
