On a tr3 exhaust manifold, does anyone know if the studs that come out the bottom are NC or NF and if the nuts are brass or not. In addition, did the manifold come painted?

I can't remember about the studs but I think that the nuts could be steel or they could be brass. As for painting, I did mine with high temp silver paint from Hirsch 17 years ago and it still looks good. See the attachment.

studs are NC, nuts are tall brass. use high-temp anti-sieze on the threads. just working on my 3A exhaust right before I came in. the exhaust pipe bracket under the tranny is a real pain ...

I just looked att he studs coming out of the bottom of the manifold (my engine is out), and they are coarse threaded. I remember taking off brass nuts. The were about twice as long as a conventional nut. Impossible to tell if there was any paint on it.

I believe they were originally unpainted. The nuts may have been steel originally but the tall brass makes sense to me.

Where do you get the tall brass nuts from? I ordered new studs and nuts recently from one of the big three suppliers and the nuts were the same standard-sized brass nuts you buy at the hardware store.

sp53 - My exhaust manifold was unpainted originally. I felt it would look better if I silver painted it. There are some places (maybe Eastwood) who sell paint that looks like new gray casy iron but it will keep that colour instead of turning rusty.

I found them at a local auto-supply place [Merle's] not one of the chain stores, more like a NAPA with lots of bins of good stuff in back.
