TR2/3/3A TR3 Door Seals

Trying to fit the door seals that go above the doors in the curve area. Do you fit the clips to the car and then the seals to them or the other way around?

I can't remember. It was so long ago. I would think that either way would work. If you put the clips in first, compress the open big end a bit, insert the clip and when they are all in you can compres the rubber just where the clip holds the seal. Make sure the clips are in the right way round. You can put them in 180 degrees half way round which may be wrong because each side of the clip is different.

I put them on the strip at approximately the correct place. Then started at the hinge area putting one clip at a time and use a pair of needle nose to position and push in the clip.
 
I think clips on the rubber, then insert, would be WAY easier than trying to stuff the rubber into the clips after they're in.
 
I agree, from experience: clip onto seal, clip with seal into hole. Not a bad job, but just wait till you do the seals under the doors, ugh!
 
Don't put seals under the doors. In 1990 I put new repro ones on and couldn't close the doors, so for 20 years, I've driven my 1958 TR3A over 105,000 miles without them. I'd guess that it rained about 4,000 miles during those 20 years of driving. Never got wet from down there. I don't drive in deep puddles, in snow or slush of any depth and no TRA or VTR judge has ever docked me a point for them not being there.

The cross-section of the repro rubber seals to too big - so leave them off. If you think you will feel a windy draft coming in where they should be, just think about all the wind hitting you from above the door.

Amen, Don. I was so disgusted with the MOSS seals, I didn't bother putting the seals on the driver's side door; I would miss that nice "snick" sound upon closing the door. After 4 years, the passenger side seals haven't compressed, so I'll take your advice and remove them.

I think I did order some TRF seals, they're around here somewhere, perhaps I'll compare them.....
 
None of the seals were on my car when I got it so this is a very helpfull post. The idea of pushing metal clips into a small hole with only paint around it does not sound like a good idea. First a small chip and then rust. Could you just glue the weatherstrip to the car?
