I am looking to replace my air filters but they are asking if I have 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 SU's. Does anyone know what came on a 1957 TR3 and how to tell the difference?

Thanks,

Hey, Curt -

TR3's had 1 3/4" carbs - I believe H6 for yours, and HS6 for TR4's. The fuel inlets differ, but pretty much interchangeable otherwise.

Ready to sell the TF yet? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

H4's & HS4's, 1 1/2", would have two carb to manifold mounting bolts. The air intake would measure about 1 1/2".

H6's & HS6's, 1 3/4", would have four carb to manifold mounting bolts. The air intake would measure about 1 3/4".

The secret decoder ring:

Subtract 1 and divide the remainder by 1/8...

i.e.>> (1 3/4" - 1)/ 1/8 = 6 ergo 1 3/4" = HS6 (or H6)

Thanks for posting that, Geo. I have always wondered about it. I knew there must be a relationship, but couldn't figure out how it went!
