TR2/3/3A tr3 breather pipe

I learned something new about the tr3 breather pipe. If the pipe has the swirl bend in it, you can take the oil filter off and not remove the breather pipe. I have had a few 1958s and they have had the straight pipe, so I always would remove the breather pipe when changing oil, what a pain.

Interesting and thanks for sharing. I have a 1966 TR4A with no PCV, vented at valve cover. For years had considered installing a block breather but, never pulled the trigger. Then, literally, last week I bought one off ebay "just in case". I saw one at a decent price and feared they would become NLA or too expensive in the future. I just pulled it from the box in the basement and, as best I can tell, it has the swirl bend. Would have been bummed if I bought an earlier one

Still not convinced I will ever install it but, good to know I have it if I need it.

What happened is I posted about changing oil years ago and having to remove the breather pipe and crawling under the car. Don Elliot posted he changes the oil and does not go under the car. I could not figure out how he did that. He said take the breather pipe off from above and it is easy. I tried it with no luck the filter hit the breather. Then I got a breather pipe with the bend and swirl on a different car and tried Don’s idea. I was able to take the filter off from under the hood and the drain plug became exposed for a clear removal and changed the oil by not going under the car.
