TR2/3/3A TR3 body question seam or no seam

I was going to ask this some time back about weather I should remove the factory lead or leave it. My car has it in 6 places. While at the local British car show today I was looking at the TR3s and noticed that they all had a seam above the center of the rear tire. That seam is not on my car as it has been filled with lead. I was thinking it was from the factory but I may be wrong. Did all years have the seem on the body? Mine was built in Dec. of 1956. I think I have a picture of the area on this post, if not I will put it on the next.

Keith, I have that seam in that same place. My car is a TR 3A post 60000 commission number. I would guess that some body man filled it in years ago back when they did that type of stuff with lead. Not many do that today.

The earlier cars had the seams filled with lead from the factory, as my 23677 body had. I put on a post 60000 body, and the seams weren't filled...well, they are now, as I just got a little crazy with the lead work.

I don't know when the factory stopped filling the seams in, but post 60000 is always a good guess.

All TR2s, TR3s and TR3As up to TS 60000 had the seams filled flush when they left the factory. TR3As after TS 60000 and TR3Bs have the seam visible.

We need Mr Elliott to help us with this one. On my first TR3A (TS36131L) that seam was smoothed over and the body shop left it that way. I was then told that the seam should have been left visible.
So, when I had some old accident damage repaired on my current TR3A (TS64566L) I asked the shop not to cover up that seam. I was subsequently told that the seam should have been covered over!! The paint has cracked on one side now in the seam.
I have always wanted to know the definitive answer to this one.

Don has answered my question while I was typing it!!

Thanks for the information guys no seam it is.

GLad to have read this as my TR2 had some body work done in the past, and I thought that they had filled the seams then. Guess I can leave it alone! fine by me.
