TR2/3/3A TR3 Battery Box Replacement. Who has the best box?

I was not going to replace to battery box on my car but the one pin hole, pitting, and thin metal made me remove it today. TRF has one for $125.00 and Moss has one for $60.00. Does anyone know if the TRF box is that much better than the one Moss sells? They claim it's perfect in every way,even better than original (TRF). I don't have a problem spending the extra money for the better part.

I'm not positive I know what the difference is, but I do know that the TRF battery box extends all the way up the firewall to the scuttle as the original did. That upper section has a couple of holes punched in it and a weld nut for the battery ground cable. I think the Moss item is just a repair box that doesn't have the upper section.

I put in the TRF box, as the upper section on my body had corrosion on it. BTW, getting an original box in there is not an easy job. It seemed like there was just no way to get it in. I finally had to cut out the section of the body right before where the front of the box fits in, drop the box in, and then re-weld in the section I cut out. If the Moss box is short on top (as I suspect it is), then this wouldn't be neccessary.

I agree with Art. I have the TRF box in mine also. Good fit and very original looking.

I went and looked at a TRF box this mourning that was instaled a few months back. What I found I did not like and from the pictures and the posts it looks like it's impossible to install without making some cut somewhere and weld it back together. Since mine is out of the car I will have to find away to get it in. As a friend mentioned it's a shame I could not get a (do over) on this one. I will order a new one from TRF and post a follow up on how I got it in. Would love suggestions though.

Art, I didn't do the actual replacement, it was done by my budy the body man. As I recall it was basically a cut the old one out and drop the new one in. Kind of like franks. He has some great pictures in his post. I wish I had taken more pictures. I have added 4 pics of how mine came out. Hope this helps some.

Before this thread gets away, I need to tack on another question:

For the Roadster Factory Box, does it include the mounting tab for the dash bracket, or is that something you need to fabricate separately?

Yes Randy, if your talking about the two tabs on the dash side of the box they are on there. Just can't see them in my picture.
