TR2/3/3A Tr3 Ashtray

I got this years ago after being told it was an "original" ashtray from a Tr3. I just rediscovered it the other day and wonder if it actually is. I'm assuming there are people here who know. Thanks.

The pull on the front doesn't look like others I've seen, but the rest of it looks right. On a LHD car, it screws on under the right-hand dash support rail. The two holes at the front should line up with the two holes in the bottom of the dash, and the hole at the rear will line up with the center slot on the dash support rail. No extra hardware needed at the front, you'll need a screw and a spire clip at the rear (or just a machine screw and nut).

I have two of these in similar state, and both have pull knobs - both knobs different and I think different than yours. Not sure if they every came from the factory that way but it is pretty common with the knobs - possibly to replace a fragile bakelite front that I've seen before.

I have the base unit and have never removed it in case I find the other half. The only other things I have are scars on my knee from when I discovered it.

Mine's now long gone, along with the car, but it was somewhat different. Mine had a squarish, bakelite (I think) face place and (IIRC) a slightly smaller pull knob. I'm pretty sure it was a factory option, though, since I was able to buy a replica face plate many years ago from TRF.

Oh, and probably should mention my car was TS71909L, a later TR3A; there might have been "early" and "late" versions of the ash tray.

Here is my TR3A original ashtray (restored). I appears that your front face plate was replaced by a pull knob. This is not correct but it is functional.

Yes! That is the correct face for the ash tray. But that, ummm, Blackberry thing, or iPhone, or whatever that is, will cost you points at the concours. They hadn't been invented yet!

And, that's a really clean looking ash tray. Don't you smoke???

"But that, ummm, Blackberry thing"

Ah, yes - the "albatross". It seemed to be a decent prop at the time I shot those photos.

That makes sense.

Wow, that's nice. Thanks. I don't smoke, but it's great for change, pens, etc. A mini junk drawer.
