Does anybody have a picture of the factory option aluminum oil pan? I may have found one but it's in a TR4.

My friend has a TR3 project that was tricked out by an employee of Group 44 a long time ago. It had a finned aluminum oil pan. Not sure if it was the factory option one or not. I may be able to get a pic sometime, but don't count on it.

Thanks Viv for that information, now I know what to look for.

Alloy pans are nice to hang on the wall and look at, but not nearly as nice to put on the car and worry about.

My MGA Twin Cam has an even nicer pan than the alloy TR - baffled, finned on the exterior has side conpartments for extra oil....and looks just dandy hanging on the wall of the garage.

Hit a rock once and you are out a valuable oil pan - and an engine if you don't notice the loss of pressure in time. Hit a steel pan on a rock and you just continue on, unless it gets pushed up against the crank in which case you'll hear the banging as the rods whack it and will know to stop.

Holy cow Bill do you get alot of rock slides in your area? We get plenty of debris on our roads, but most of it is from people that can't secure their load in the pickup.

I'm with Bill : up in the mountains is one of my favorite places to drive a TR. And it's not at all unusual to pop around a curve and find that some of the rocks have migrated.

Nice picture Randall , we have alot of that kind of driving also. I'm just trying to find all the stock ways of making the car run cooler here in hot AZ.
