TR2/3/3A TR3 1/2" Belt & Pulley Conversion Kit from Moss

Re: TR3 1/2" Belt & Pulley Conversion Kit from Moss

I have the kit here, and am installing it on my engine rebuild, as I'm going electric fan also. I bought it from Ken at British Frame & Engine, and he speaks highly of it. It's the same one Moss has. You'll gain a couple of horsies not having the crank fan on there and spinning a 1/2" belt instead of the wide belt.

Be aware though, there is no timing mark on it, so it would be best to line up the mark on your old pulley first, and then when you put the new one on, you can file a notch. The pulley is slightly smaller, so you may have to bend the indicator on the timing chain cover down a little. Also, there is a sleeve that has to be pressed onto the pulley where it goes into the timing chain cover. They say you should be able to squeeze it on with a bench vise, but I used an arbor press at work.

How it will work over the long haul??? I don't know, I can only go by what Ken said.

This would seem to indicate that the damper is available elsewhere and the sleeve that you pressed on is used to mate it with the TR crank nose diameter.

I wonder what the vehicle the damper came from and if we could purchase just the damper elsewhere.

The generator pulley is useless if you run and alternator. And I suspect that the electric fan draws a bit of juice from the old generator.

Yeah, this is true, but you also need the water pump pulley, which is part of the kit. The sleeve that is pressed on is to increase the diameter of the part of the pulley that the seal rides on.

Moss sells the parts individually too .. https://www.mossmotors.com/graphics/products/PDF/837-508.pdf

.. but I sort of like the bpnw kit https://www.bpnorthwest.com/.sc/ms/bdd/ee/7510/Aluminum%20Pulley%20Kit%20TR3-4A because you can still use a fan if you want and stil use a thinner belt.

As far as removing the fan all together, Kas says "Just take off" https://kaskastnersforum.yuku.com/topic/387/t/Harmonic-damping.html

Of course you'll need something at the end of the crank so ... maybe this? https://www.pattonmachine.com/FanOrderPrice.htm

Too many choices is making my head hurt!
