TR5/TR250 TR250 frame tag

On the front cross member under the engine there is a tag with a D3 in it, this is an original TR250 frame. Does this number help identify anything or just a way for the place the made the frames to keep track of them? Is there any kind of cross reference to find out what a frame is from this number such as TR4,250,6, year range, etc?
