TR5/TR250 TR250 Engine differences

Decided since I have to rebuild a TR250 engine I might as well build two while I'm at it. First engine is a early 250 single timing chain and the later one (#4897) has a double chain. Should I go ahead and change the early one to a double chain as well. Another difference I found was the early head has a big open water passage in the front and back of the head. Later one just has a 1/2" round passage in the same area. Have another 250 head I could swap that out with well. These 250 engine oil pumps don't have the screen on pickup point, thinking of putting the later TR6 pump with screen on them as well. Comments?

I put in the later style pump with the pick up screen, I think Kastner recommends this in his competition prep book, I also went to the double row chain, because I had access to the needed gears, figured it couldn't hurt.
