TR5/TR250 TR250 beading

Reading Tinkermans thread about installing the TR3 beading got me thinking about the 250. The beading is painted on the 250. I have new beading that should be going in next week. I am thinking about bead blasting and priming it before installing. I've seen 250's where the paint is flaking off the beading, just want to make sure paint stays on. I hate to blast new shiney beading but I know it won't stay on the slick finish. Anyone have other ideas?

Would powdercoating make it more resistant to flaking (which may still need bead blasting)?

I like the beading shiny like on the TR4A. Once you paint it, you can't easily go back.

But if you are going to paint, it needs tooth to hold so rough it up and primer. I've been using acid etch primer on my 4A panels and also on nearly everthing around here that needs paint and the results are great. Very tight, hard to sand off finish. Very durable. Don't know about using it on aluminum, so check.

I roughed it up with some fine sandpaper and primed with an aerosol primer, then applied the same urethane enamel used on the rest of the car. No problems with the paint lifting or flaking. My only issue is that I should have added another coat, a bit thin in spots.
