My brakes work fine, all new pads shoes, lines, hoses, M/C,turned rotors and drums, etc. etc. Vacuum assist appears to be working OK as well, but I would still like to get a little better bite from the brakes, I am considering either upgraded pads (I just have generic order it from Moss or VB type pads now) or possiblu the Toyota caliper conversion, any experience with either appreaciated, thanks, Greg

I have been running the green pads for a couple years. There is a definite performance improvement over stock, in fact they've saved my car a couple times with people pulling out in front of me. Though the pads are advertised as being clean, I find them to be considerably dirtier than the previous pads. But I'll take safety over brake dust every time.

From everything I read or seen the "only" advantage to the Toyota upgrade is less fade. Someone did a whole test of stock vs Toyota and stopping distances were the same. As to brake pads I went with Ted Schumacher's recommendation and installed Kevlar pads at all 4 corners along with Morgan/Sunbeam larger wheels cylinders on the rear. Excellent stopping and no dust.

Greg - how are you planning on using the car? I'm running Toyota calipers and the uprated rear wheel cylinders and it makes (for me anyway) a very noticeable difference in braking feel and reserves. I drive this car aggressively, and facing having to rebuild the front/rears from scratch it was actually about the same cost as buying all the rebuild bits through Moss.

Greg,

I've heard it both ways, new pads or Toyota conversion. I swapped some TR parts for some Toyota brakes last week so I can try it out myself. Won't be doing the swap for a couple of weeks but I'll post my findings when I do. My trouble is do I put them on the TR6 or or the TR250.

As far as use of the car it may see an occassional autocross or maybe even a track day, as well as general street drving withing the boundaries of the law of course.

Based on what has been said I will probably go with an uprated pad next spring. O know several (20?) years ago I put semi-mattlaic pads on my 4A and it was a mixed bag, initial bite was less, but they got progressively better as they heated up, but I am assuming pad technology has moved on a bit since those days.

Try the Hawk HP Plus pads. These made a noticeable difference on the front of the TR250. Will wear the rotors faster, but rotors are pretty cheap, and having a good set of anchors on the car are worth it.

Rob.
