I have acess to an after market 250/TR4 top. A quick trial fit looks as if it will fit my tr6. I dont have the mounting hardware and the top seems a little warped but I would like to know if this will fit.

Thanks All! I will post some pics soon of my progress.

A TR250 top <span style="font-weight: bold">WILL</span> fit.

A TR4A top will fit with very poor sealing around the windows.

A TR4 top WILL <span style="font-weight: bold">NOT</span> fit.

You'll wind up fabricating the hardware. The biggest difference (Aside from the side windows) is the header rail at the top of the windscreen. TR4 used one kind of clamp, the TR4A had over-center flip-type clamps that were on the back side of the frame, and starting with the 250 they had the 90deg. twist pins like the TR6.
Body-wise they are the same. its all in the mounting parts, and how much time you want to spend to make it fit.

Do you mean a hard top? I think Aaron and possibly Banjo were referring to the soft top.

I didn't understand the warped reference, because I assumed it was a soft top too, but warped would make more sense for a hard top. I don't know much about the hards tops, windshield and doors are the same, I think my 4A hardtop hooked in the front by the same hooks that held the softtop frame on, which as already stated, would be different than the TR250/6 method. Is the rear valence different?, as I recall the hardtop sits on top of the rear valence and not behind where the back of the soft top goes.

Don't we have at least one person here that fit a Surrey top on a TR6? If that worked, then I would guess that an aftermarket hard top would fit as well.

Poolboy fitted one nicely to his TR6

Yeah, is it a hard top or soft top? TR4A-TR6 would be compatible but the TR4 has a totally different windshield cap and rear mounting. Also the TR4A does not have the "superior" TR250/6 window seals on the soft top frame.

I have a surrey top on my 76 TR6. A friend of mine owned a TR6 and a TR4a at the same time. He had a surrey top on the TR4a. He told me the windshield and the top body parts of both cars were the same except for the top cap on the 4a windshield which is wider for the surrey. The surrey on my TR6 fits well except for the window seals, which aren't that great. I also have a parish hardtop on a 75 TR6 parts car which I think would also fit on a TR4a.

The top is a hard top. Came with a 250 purchase back in 1985. Did a dry run with no hard ware and looks as if all will work. The top is a little warped from improper storage but I think it will relax. i picked up a set of handles from a 1500 Spit tody that I will adapt for the front of the top. The back has a set of eye bolts that may work. Looks like I may need to remove the soft top to get everything to fit right. Thanks for the info guys!

Well, spent the rainy day fitting the top. Had to do a bit of trimming on the header rail as the top was badly warped. Pretty happy with the results, will click pics later. Thanks all!
