Folks,

Does the rubber grommet sealing off the hole in the transmission cover go under the carpet or does the carpet cut around the hole with the rubber grommet exposed on the inside of the car?

Thanks.

Ron

I've only seen carpet covering the big rubber grommet in the gearbox cover, except for cars that have no carpet at all..

I think the grommet is under the carpet. At least that is how mine is. Cheers, Mike

I have seen early cars with the plug showing, and I have heard that the carpeting was an extra and not from the factory, maybe the dealer. But then again, I have heard that carpeting was installed by the factory, but then again, I have only seen pictures of the plug exposed, and I believe they were a TR2.

That's my impression...the early cars had the grommet showing, but all later cars did not.

Without a dip stick you fill until oil runs out of the fill hole. The you're done.

To check I use a length of wire (a white insulated wire from a piece of Romex) bent and inserted into the fill hole as a sort of dip stick.
