OK all you gurus of the triumph world, I have door latches off a '54 TR2 that Seem to have a substantial amount of original paint on them, enough to lead me to believe they were installed prior to factory application of paint. I have been able to confirm that the car was originally painted white because of all the white paint I've found under grommets and bolt heads and in large drips down the inside of the rear apron that was directly on top of red oxide primer. Can anyone confirm that door latches and strikers were ever painted? The pictures are too big to post here so I made an external album. I've circled the areas of original paint to make it a little easier to see.

Same here. Paint over chrome is the usual sign of a quick paint job somewhere along the road...

No question, that is very true for all of the later paint that I've had to remove but I still did not expect to find factory lacquer on them
