I keep seeing these on ebay, and see it in the Moss catalog as well as my Haynes manual, but have not seen one actually on a car. Is this only used while pulling the engine? I'm not sure exactly where it would go, but I did not see one when I pulled my engine out. I doubt it will be helpful when putting it back, as I plan to do that while the body is still off.

Sometime fairly late in TR3A production, the factory started leaving the lifting eyes in place on at least some of the engines. There was a head stud and a manifold stud that got longer to accomodate the extra thickness of the rear eye; and probably changes for the front eye as well. But even Bill Piggott couldn't figure out a precise change point, which probably means there wasn't one.
