TR engine misses badly

Got up the nerve this morning to take Crypty
out in heavy traffic to run an errand-
maybe 20 miles R/T.

About 4 miles out the engine started to stumble
badly and seemed to hesitate on acceleration. Also
a rather strong smell of raw gasoline.

It did not get any worse and idle was normal, oil
pressure normal, temperature normal. Finished my run
to the marine supply store .................

Limped home and popped the hood. Where should this
non-mechanic Dale look first? Everything is new!

Must be that danged coil again.

Oh well, start at the plugs and go backwards, I suppose.
Plugs all a-ok. On to the dizzy. 1,2,3,4,5 spark plug
wires all nicely connected. Wait a minute. FIVE? I'm
positive I installed six plug wires. Ah, there it is, hanging down by it's lonesome. A crypty trick for sure.
Just to needle me.

Whoa!! Tinster diagnosed and repaired an engine problem
without anyone's help? Amazing indeed. And it did not require any of the 500 pounds of spare parts and tools
I carry in the trunk!

Whoa, indeed. You are better than me dale.

Way to go Dale. You're turning into a full fledged mechanic.

Crypty knows he beat. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif He's just trying needle you a little with some last gasp efforts. He'll give up this nonsense real soon. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

A-MAY-ZING!!!!

I told you that devil would make a mechanic out of you..

Well done Dale, I know who to contact when I have problems. Actually, if you fancy a trip to Scotland I have a couple of old Triumphs that are't running too well ... !

Hey Dale! A small tie wrap around the plug boot over the plug will cure that problem. Used to be a regular PITA on the race cars until we started doing that. Now it's extremely rare to lose a wire.

Hey Nick,

Clan Fraser here. Wish I could fly-- I never
got to visit the country of my grandparent's birth.

Does this mean I'm unemployed? Now i gotta find another job.
Dave

Nope, ya still got a job.

Crypty is drinking brake fluid for some reason.
Have not yet determined where it is disappearing to.

How is school going?? Becoming a bookworm yet?

Take a look around for leaks, if you don't find one then it may be the master cyl. I can't believe this as it is new.Check the lines especially on the block just below the master cyl.
School is going well, my marks are in the 90's. Annie and I send our best to you and Wendy.
