My newly purchased 6 has pertronics and has shut down everytime I have driven it. It will turn over but never catch. If I wait an hour or so, the car will start and be fine long enough for me to get it home. Engine was supposedly totally rebuilt, but I believe the car has been sitting before I purcased it. Any thoughts? thanks maddogspy

definitly a heat issue, when it quits, is there any spark? How hot is the coil? Could be the pertronix. swap it out for a set of points and condensor and see how it works.

Does it start to miss and die or just suddenly cut off?

The coil could be failing as well.

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

Next time, if you have any warning that it's about to shut down, reach around and flip open the gas cap.
If that keeps the engine from dying, repost and we'll tell you how to fix it.
