Well, after finally getting my seats back from the shop today, my 2 year plus rebuild project is complete. I fired it up and took the car on its first road trip, all of 10 miles, since the Fall of 2000. The car runs OK, still needs some tinkering with timing I think, and it steers, shifts, and stops great. I brought it back into the garage all fired up to wipe down the motor, and a stuck hood! The cable and all parts are new, and it operated fine until this drive. I weasn't smart enough to put in an emergency cable release, so I'm looking for ideas on how to get this open. The cable feels like its pulling the latch, but ther hood won't budge. I'm just going to tackle this tomorrow and any good ideas would be welcome. I will definitely put an emergency cable in before reclosing it! Thanks,

Mark, if the cable is still hooked up, and it sounds like it is, then perhaps it is only stretched. Just unscrew the handle from it's mount, which will allow you to take up the slack. Hood will open if this is the case.
Then so it never happens again, take the handle from a gallon paint can and run it from the latch through a newly drilled hole straight to the right. The handle will wind up above the passenger foot area. A little loop and it is then very easy to operate and will never again cause the problem. Good luck.

Of course I didn't even think of that, since it is the easiest to try 1st. That was it, hood popped right open! Thanks for the advice.......

Mark, I popped THREE brand new cables, all from TRF. Not that that made a difference - all cables from all vendors come from Taiwan now. The quality is abysmal. There are a variety of alternative opening methods. I copied the idea from 6-pack, the lever attached to the lock assembly and dropping down into the footwell. I haven't used my last new OE-style cable in over three years.
