Grab a chair and a beer, and watch the bidding go to the stratosphere on this one. An extremely rare and beautiful Triumph TR-5 PI w/OD. You can go years without seeing one of these, especially one in good condition:

My favorite Triumph of all. I really like the badging, looks so . . . British!

Those of you in the know: look at the photo with the badges. Is the Union Jack badge original to the car? The screws look strange, awkward.

Drool . . .

Now if only I could find my "first born", I might be able to afford it.

I only posted a pic this week of the one that I had back in the day. The even more frustrating thing is that it is just down the road from me - Aaargh.

Ian, if you don't mind, what did you pay for your TR-5 back in the day?

And was yours a TR-5 or TR-250?? TR-5 is a whole different animal, of course, especially the price!

I lived in the UK, so we only had the TR5. It was in quite good condition and I paid 800 pounds ($1,600) for it. I sold it for the same price a couple of years later and was happy to get that amount as I needed funds quickly to buy an Elan Sprint.

With apologies to the TR250 owners, because I would have one now, we used to say that they named it the 250 because it was half the car that the 5 was. Here's a repost of the pic.

If I knew then what I know now, I would still have both of them - sigh. On the bright side, I still have the same gal after all these years.

There is an alien spaceship in that picture disguised as a van. Look the alien is waving!!!!

$10k for an opening price. Sigh. I wonder where the seller set the reserve.

Interesting. I'd almost be inclinded to bid, except I wouldn't know the first thing about keeping that PI working!

And yet a TR enthusiast here in the SW just bought a very fine one (also LHD) out of Atlanta very recently. So recent that he was still awaiting delivery when he attended our Brit Car weekend 2 weeks ago (had to drive his Jag).

Look forward to seeing his car -- guess the next best thing to having one is having one around (a lot cheaper too).

Hope this one can stay stateside as I beleive there may only be 13 or 14 in the US and would hate to see that number (and the opportunity to see one) decline.

Just bid -- and pushed the price as far as I was willing to go, and not surprisingly, I was outbid! Oh well, would have been fun...

If you haven't checked in on this car in the past several hours, look at the additional remarks the owner added to the page, very interesting. He's allegedly a VTR member and it seems he knows yis Triumphs.

Also, check the question posted by an "interested" party, I think it's okay to post it here, no?

Q: TR-5 ?? What is it, a TR-4 with a Hot engine? How does that engine run?
Answered on Mar-15-08
A: No offense, Junior, but this isn't the car for you. Maybe you want to try a Fiero Ferrari- I hear they run pretty good.

LOL!!!

Man, This one just hit $25K & 8 days to go!!

"God Bless America"!

The TR3 set the bar the other day at $39,100.

Any side bets on whether or not this will surpass the TR3?

Seems like there's a buying frenzy before the summer hits. One of our members TR4s is up to $25K also..

Did someone say "recession"?

OOPS, sorry - wrong thread!

It's the season for roadsters: birds tweeting; pretty girls walkin' around in shorts, etc. :nonono:

I wouldn't be surprised to see this one go for $35K or more. There are plenty of well-heeled TR lovers out there with money to burn, and TR-5s don't surface often. There's nothin' like a nice TR-5 to show who has the money!

If eBay gave free liquor to bidders like Barrett-Jackson, Spitfires would be sellin' for $25K. I still marvel at the internet and eBay, amazing venue and a savior for LBCs, IMHO.

Sky's the limit on rarities like this one. I say at least $33K to beat the reserve.

Anyway we can make a contest out of this, the closest guess to the winning bid receiving a BCF cap.......

Not that anyone asked but... it's a Commer van, or some close relative. And I'd say that's a Hillman Hunter (or again a variant like maybe a Humber Sceptre- based on the chrome and the script lettering). Bonus point - door of a Mini traveler/countryman on the far right of the screen?!...

Nice looking TR too!
