Hi,
By any chance are the tensioners that broke the black-finished ones? I have heard there are two different manufacturers: a weaker type that is black anodized or something, and a stronger one that's finished in natural steel (silvery) and holds up pretty well. I lucked out and happen to have one of the latter on hand for my engine rebuild.
Another possibility, there is often a wear pattern on the front plate of the engine, a slot the tensioner has worn into it. It's best to fill and smooth that, brazing is one way. Unfortunately, there's more than a little disassmebly needed to do that right.
