TR2/3/3A TR-3A truck X brace rubber

Does the rubber under the trunk lid x brace do anything other than stop the brace from hitting the lid? I do not see rubber on TRF, MOss or BV. Should I just glue sheet rubber to the bottom of the lid where the brace is? How thick?

I am assuming that it helps with vibration as well. I got new rubbers from TRF.
