Just to provide some additional comments, details and photos.

original post is here

The following two photos show three different fan extensions and respective dimensions. We had used the middle cast iron extension which did not provide adequate clearance. The correct extension, nearly 3/4-inch shorter is shown on the right. In addition, whil looking for the correct extension, we found an aluminum one which is shown on the left. We have not yet verified what car this came from or in fact that it was a TR. (could it be a Morgan???)

Don't think the aluminum one is from a Morgan Plus 4; as I believe they had the fan mounted to the water pump pulley.

The correct TR2-3 extension is 4" long overall (I went out and measured two of them). Your shorter one may have come from a TR4 or 4A, as they both had different extensions.

Pretty sure that short one is a TR3 variant, I have one on my TR4 to give the extra 3/4" to accomodate the TR6 plastic fan. Still think the aluminum one was either an aftermarket "performance" add, or potentially a factory option - I thought I remember TR4A but not sure about that.

I've seen aluminum ones on eBay from time to time listed as fitting a TR4.

This is an old photo from my collection. The shorter one is on my TR3A, the TR4A (and one just like it) came on my TR4A (and parts car) - the groove fits around the cross-tube support. Both TR4A extensions that I have are grooved the same amount.

btw - I couldn't get a yellow TR6 fan to fit on my 3A with any of these. I use a BMW red plastic fan.
