Ready to instal my cowl vent and can't recall how the spring goes. Rubber seal first (does it get any adhesive?). Then two screws hold vent hinge. Then two screws through the cowl into the nuts on the pivot. But what does the spring rest against? Pictures would be helpful-thanks.

I find it easier to disconnect the linkage from the lid, and install the linkage first. The spring gets trapped between the bracket that carries the linkage, and the body. Install the gasket & lid; then connect the spring & linkage to the lid. Here's a couple of photos
