TR2/3/3A TR-3 steering box bearings

I need the forums help.

The bottom caged bearing and cupped race are both damage on my TR-3 steering box.

TRF has the cupped race but not the caged bearing.

Does anyone have a source for these bearings?

Thanks, John

TRF rebuilds boxes and uses new bearings. Did you give them a call? sometimes they have parts but they aren't in thier catalogs.

Try Macy's garage they rebuild also and might have a supply for the bearings. I put new ones in my steering box but have no clue as to were I got them, sorry.

If US sources dry up, Bastuck in Germany shows the part in their online catalog. For that matter Moss Europe has the parts listed too, which is a little surprising since Moss USA does not.

Happens all the time. Apparently their buyers don't always compare notes. On occasion, I've also found parts available from Moss USA that aren't listed on the Europe site.

If all else fails, those "bearings" are just bearing balls in a mild steel cage. Shouldn't be that hard to spread the cage fingers just a bit, pop out the old balls, and put in new balls. High quality bearing balls are readily available, and cheap.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

I'm going to try installing new bearing balls first so I can troubleshoot the steering and see what might have cause the bearing failure.

With everyone upgrading to rack and pinion steering, there should be plenty of good used worm gear units out there.

Thanks, John

Help! I need the forms help on how to remove a damage tr-3 steering column worm gear from its shaft so I can install another one with good bearing races on it.
Any suggestions out there.

I was thinking that I could just press out, but it looks like it will be hard to get a straight alignment on the shaft with its beveled edge. Thanks, John
