I have a concern about the head off the 250. We think it might be off a TR6. Motor # CC79173UE - Head # 218227. How can I find out if this the correct head?

The head you have is off a production dates 72-74 TR6, the same number as the head on my '73. Some say it is the good one.

I think that the engine is out of a TR 6. There goes the value of the TR 250 down the drain. Just kidding I don't care about everything being perfect "As from the show room floor" We build them to drive them and have fun. $$ when you sell means very little, Cause you don't sell em.

Aloha Dan,

That engine # is for a 72 TR6. I had a 72 for awhile and like Ray, was told the '227 head was better because it had the wide intake ports for the better intake manifold yet retained the bigger (32mm) exhaust valves. Who knows if it's true in reality though.

BTW, the head number for a TR250 (and up to 71 or so TR6) is 516323. I bet there's a TR250 engine that will turn up someday for you to grab, rebuild, and use. You are right - the engine you have now will move your 250 down the road and sound GREAT doing it!

74.5 & 75 TR6

I have a TR250 block with a '73 TR6 head in my six. My intent was to refreash the original engine, but the cam bearings were shot, and I could not find a shop to do the line bore and none wanted to take the hours to hone it out. So the spare '250 block went in. The six block is now under the workbench with a 250 head on it.

Dan, what type of exhaust and intake manifold do you have on your engine?
