I know it will still be awhile before I get around to having my 2 painted, but I was wondering what you think about color combinations, interior and exterior. The car was originally signal red with a stone leather interior, black sidecurtains and hood stick cover. I want to keep the car an original combination for 1955, but any other ideas? I like the pearl white with red interior look, but am open to suggestions.

Mark - The red interior is hard to come by - in the original red. When I was doing my restoration from 1987 to 1990, the only red vinyls available were MG red, BMW red etc. but not the TR red. I was planning to get my interior from Jim Hawkins in Witney, Oxen, (he is no longer in business) and he said he could do any colour in leather. So I ordered it all in leather for about $300. more. It is still like new 15 years later and it is the correct red colour for my 1958 TR3A.

Hi Mark,

I really like the Stone interior color. It looks great in combination with many exterior colors. Signal red paint is nice, too. So, I'd be tempted to go back to the original colors on that car.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think in the end, I'll probablly put it back as original, with the one exception being a correct A type OD unit being added. Happy Holidays!
 
Signal red/stone is perfect for these cars, IMHO. Stats also show that red roadsters are easier to sell.

But of course, Mark, I'll bet you're never going to sell this one, right?

Good choice. Go for it.

I haven't sent for a heritage cert. yet, but from what I can deduce, my TR2 was originally Signal Red, with black interior. But the only seats the PO has were red leather (still useable) And they seem to be correct for the car. I dunno!
I like the red, but almost every one I see is either white or red.
I've got my heart set on British Racing Green,(I know, it's not that uncommon either) with a medium brown interior and top. But I'm not going for 100% originality, and that's a loooong way off for me.
On the other hand, Red with the white interior is not a common mix, and it would be accurate for the car. If you like it, do it.

The earliest TR2 I ever had the privilage of working on was TS816LO. (long door with none of the upgrades) The VTR actually contacted us to see if we really had it or not.
It was white, with Blackberry trim. Very pretty. Had a white top, tonneau, and side curtians. It was a time capsule. Having been parked in a basement garage since 1961, everything was there and useable/rebuildable. The only thing we HAD to replace was the carpets, which decintegrated when you touched them.
The buyer had us repaint it Black. AAAAAAAH! But I have to admit, Black over Blackberry with the white weather gear was really sharp.

I think I will most likely keep the red with stone leather combination. I've already called TRF and their Magic Carpet folks have all of the interior trim and carpets in the correct color. I'll pronbablly have them redo my side curtains as well. How's the dismantling coming along Ben? Send me some photos!
