tr 2, at salvage auction...

Oh man! that'd be most of the parts I'd need.
That one's gonna require a new frame. The only adjustable alignment angle on those is the toe. Everything else hinges on the frame being "dead straight" and from the looks of that front tire shoved into the fender, it's not.
But alas, I have no way of getting a car across country.

Someone save it!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifI've got a car hauler... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif My guess is if it's a Colorado car, it should be pretty rust free. I also have a membership to the auction house and short term storage. If any of you guys have any intrest, lemme know if I can help out.

You're not helping! (checks over shoulder for wife)
Oh yea?

any idea on how much it will go for?

I've got an idea for a half tr trailer, plus I may be able to use some of the other parts

Oh man! Why did I have to see this! I have relatives in Denver/Colorado Springs... Wonder if they'd have room in one of their garages to store a future project car for me!

BTW, my TR4 had similar damage at the right rear. Actually more than once, but I don't know the extent of the earlier accident. The frame was bent up pretty well the last time, though, when I was involved. Plus there was some damage at the left front, which was repaired (sort of) before I bought it.

My point though is that the frame was adequately strqaightened without even removing the body, and the car was driven for nearly 10 more years.

Now that the car is going through a thorough frame-off resto, I spent $250 getting a good straight frame (complete with an extra front suspension) that's been fully restored and is now under the body. Not as huge a job as it might appear. It's going to be a bit more of a problem to get the still-slightly-tweaked body fully straight on the nice straight frame. On the other hand, it would almlost certainly be a lot more difficult to find a TR2 frame in good shape!

Please, someone buy the TR2 before I do!

Aloha All,

A few years ago, a Toyota pick up truck crashed into my TR3 in about the same spot. Because the truck bumper was higher than the TR3 bumper, the damage was all sheet metal. Although it looks bad, there may not be any frame damage. I would think the area of concern would be frame columns that the front suspension mounts to, however the front tire may have protected it. Looks like a great source for parts.

Safety Fast,
Dave

I dunno. Prices tend to be all over the place. It depends on who's there. Most of the newer stuff goes to the late model "we cut it up for you" places, the old stuff goes to the pick-n-pull's. This doesn't fit either's inventory. I'd guess around $1k, but I could be wrong...

I'm not sure what selling price to expect, either. TR2 are getting pretty scarce.

I see a hard top, but not sure that it's an original. The car has wind wings mounted, an AMCO luggage rack on the boot and an Optima battery lying under the hood, all of which lead me to believe the owner was at least somewhat knowledgeable about LBCs and might have some other accessories bolted on. The serial number (note the typo and it seems to show an engine number, not a serial number) doesn't indicate an OD and I can't tell if there's a switch for one on the dash, so who knows. There might be some surprises in the trunk... where are the hub caps?

I suspect selling price will depend a lot upon the condition of the frame, as discussed. They are surprisingly tough, but if damaged it takes a little "old school" knowledge to straigten and repair. Harder to replace items will be the front valance and hood.

On a bright note, the windshield doesn't appear to have been impacted by a driver or passenger, and the steering wheel at least appears intact, although there don't appear to be any seat belts. (My TR4's steering wheel collapsed and the driver's seat broke loose from the floor, when I was in an accident, even though I was wearing a 3-point/shoulder seatbelt.)
