Aloha All,

I'm taking my TR3 engine apart. Is the oil pump drive shaft bushing held in place with a set screw or something? On the other hand, is it something I should be able to tap out with a hammer. Just wanted to ask first before I damage something, mahalo.
 
I've looked a couple of places including my original factory manual. None of these sources show a fastener for the bushing. ISTR, although it's been a long time ago, that the bushing is simply inserted in the block and is held in place by gravity, the dist drive gear, and the distributor pedestal. You should be able to knock it out, carefully, with a drift and hammer. From the bottom, please.
 
That's the way I remember it too, it's basically a press fit into the block.

Removing it will likely ruin it; you might want to have a replacement on hand before you take it out. They used to be hard to find, although I see TRF has them listed now (for $75, yikes!) and they rarely wear out.
 
So....what is an original, nos, worth?
 
Thanks guys. I was able to tap it out without ruining it. I made a tool out of an old 12" spike left over from a landscaping project. I ground down the diameter of the head so that it was slightly smaller than the O.D. of the bushing. This applied force evenly accross the face of the bushing.
