Toyota Starlet [Paseo] how to get the coolant out

Hi
I just went to change the coolant on my '98 Starlet. 4E engine just like the Paseo or Tercel in the US. Getting the coolant out of the radiator is easy since they put in a drain, but I can't get any of the coolant out of the block or heater.
I would have disconected any one of the coolant hoses, but other than the hoses which connect to the radiator, none of them are easy to get at.
Anyone know if there is a plug somewhere on the block?

I put concentrate in, but without dumping clean coolant, it is only possible to get it up to about 40%.

Well good try, nothing there that resembles a plug. To the right of the oil filter there is a bolt which looks like it could come out, but since it is under the exhaust manifold I think I will resist the urge to find out what it does.

If all else fails, simply undo a lower radiator hose, and spray water (or pour distilled water in -- if you're frightened about hard water deposits) into the top radiator hose -- that should flush everything out.

Shalom,
Sam

I tried that, and all I got for my trouble was a VERY cold bath! It seems that the way the thermostat is put in, you can't force water in through the top hose. (I tried, and when I turned the hose on all the water just blew back into my face, did I mention that winter in the Middle East is Cold!) I could pull apart the thermostat housing, I can see it sort of, and then all the water would drain out, but then I will most likely need a new gasket.
I finally just ran the engine for a while with the hose slowly adding fresh water most of the old stuff was diluted out then drained the radiator and filled it with concentrate. This gives me about 40% antifreeze which should be fine since it doesn't really go below 30F here.
Overall, this is really a nice little car. I have had it for 9 years and other than two broken door handles (this is apparently a very common problem) I haven't had a single problem with this car, and it quite enjoyable for a little car. However Toyota did not make maintenance easy.
