I think a good upholstery shop can make you some comfortable good looking seat bases with plywood and foam for a bunch less money.

Well, I got the foam and the upholstery. I just need new bases. The ones that I have are pretty much rotten. I thought that they were going to work out and they are just too far gone. I think I might take the vinyl back off and see about maybe cutting and welding new metal back in place.

Barry,

I've got my '68 seats from Bugsy that are available. I'm putting in Miata Seats. Might be able to use the base and come up with backrest. They do need to be reupholstered but overall not bad shape. DS has new seat foam and both new rubber not a bladder but the thingy that goes under the foam to hold your butt off of the ground.

Thanks Jim. All I need is the 2 metal bases for the seats. I have everything else. How is the metal on your bases? Are 68s and bugeyes the same?

Thanks Jer for the mossmotor links, this will come in handy when I start my tear down on my 74 midget!

Mine are bent on the sides in the front along with rusted areas. The bends allow for the seats to flex and it is starting to wear the upholstery. I am afraid that it will eventually tear.

Those seats look nice but at the current exchange rate $160 Pounds Each plus shipping you're probably at $5-600 for seats. A little too rich for my blood. Going with Miata Seats in Bugsy my '68 although those would look out of place in Ray's Bugeye.

Barry, get that welder fired up. You ought to be able to take your BE Seats apart, and reweld in some new metal. I found that replacing the rubber spring membrane, why can't I think of the right term, under the seat was the best performance improvement per $ I made in driveability for Bugsy. Replacing those rubber thingy's amounted to $16 per seat and the added comfort I got was well worth what paid for. Pull the seats out of the car, turn them over and you'll find out that the seat diaphram / webbing made a huge difference in driving comfort. I also replaced DS Foam on the bottom and again made a huge difference in comfort.

My seats must come out of a later car as mine have headrests. The VB Book shows 68 seats as non headrest seats.

Look in the MOSS or VB Book. Later seats have a rubber bladder / diaphram that hooks to the seat frame with S hooks. That is what supports the whole seat foam cushion. When I first got Bugsy the diaphram was broken so when I'd sit down I'd push the foam down to far my as_ end was dragging on the ground. Very uncomfortable position to sit in. For $16.95 at the time the most cost effective thing you can do to achieve driving comfort in a Spridget. Not sure if these can be adapted to a BE type seat or not.

Be sure and check the width. Someone recently bought a set of those "Race Car" Style seats off of E-Bay for what he thought was a great price only to find they were too wide to fit a Spridget.
