Total Eclipse

Local headlines this morning are mostly about how the anticipated crowds never showed. The town next to ours had offered camping in the park but abandoned the idea 2 weeks ago when nobody signed up. Many towns and counties (including our county) had declared a state of emergency ahead of the surge of tourists, but I don't think our lone Hampton Inn was even full.

Driving from the house to the shop yesterday we passed a church which was trying to charge $40 to park on their lawn! There were but 2 cars on their lawn, both of which we figured belonged to workers. "Includes glasses!" proclaimed the signs. "Why not park at the Sonic drive-in next door and get lunch included for $20?" I wondered aloud. Then I looked around and saw several other empty parking lots and wide-open fields where one could have parked for free.

We had clouds as well, but I appreciated that they made it possible to get photos without a filter. I appreciate even more that the flooding thunderstorms held off until this morning.

Niagara Falls declared a state of emergency in preparation of crowds.
On the channel 7 news, at the point of totality, they remarked that the place was empty.

The ISS got a different view of the eclipse:
