Torque figures needed

Hello all,

Can anybody help we with the following torque numbers:
1) Upper mounting bracket - radiator cowling
2) Lower mounting bracket - radiator cowling
3) Radiator - cowling

Thanks a bunch.

I'm not sure I've ever seen published values for the parts you're talking about. From memory, the upper and lower mounting brackets are 5/16" diameter while those attaching the cowling are 1/4" (at least on Mk1s). The brackets attach to either the motor front mounting bracket or thermostat housing depending on which you're talking about. The brackets also include rubber bushings on the radiator end (I seem to remember these holes use shoulder bolts, not regular bolts). So, torque to something low, perhaps close to 20 ft-lb with a bit of blue Loctite. The 1/4" fasteners going into the radiator also carry minimal load. Go with low torque and a bit of blue Loctite, perhaps something around 15 fl-lb. Me... I just tighten these by feel since they aren't structural.
