Other than Prestige, where should I comparison price shop? I'm thinking zip down back window and mohair. It's a go into the trunk top (packaway/stowaway?)

And some input on material please.

Wellllll, since you ask..... I consider a top to be a "wear item" similar to a clutch. For my own cars I buy Robbins tops as I know the product and they've always given me good service for the price. Installation is usually not a difficulty either. They now make various colors/materials as well. Keep in mind I live in Florida and expect to replace tops more frequently (about every four or five years) than you will. Go with what you think looks right and your wallet can deal with.

I've never had what I thought were good results from upholstery shops, the tops always strike me as looking "home-made" somehow. Like the dresses grandmas would make for fourth graders... frumpy and ill-fitting. Others have had more satisfying results. Mebbe I never found the right grandma (shop).

At this point, I'm not so worried about my wallet. The money for Binabox's total restoration is sitting in a checkbook. Unless *knock wood* something catastropic happens or Sarah decides to get married. NOT that we're spending her wedding money or anything.

I want a good quality top that is going to wear well and not be ridiculous to install.

Where can I price (and look at) Robbins tops Doc?

Moss carries a few brands and types...I haven't bought a top in a loooong time, I'll be going canvas when I do buy one though...just for the look! One thing you should check up on is the availablity of the Zip out rear window in a stowaway top....I don't recall ever seeing one....but definatly go for the zip out window even if you can't get it in a stowaway, I love it, it's great for those cooler days or when you can't be bothered to fold the top.

I don't mean to rant but, in my opinion one of the things that irritates me the most about these car is the top operation...Compared to American cars of a similar vintage our british tops are junk....When i had my 73 corvette convertible I used to look foward to dropping the top, becasue it was about a 30 second job...putting it up was equally quick and once up it actually kept you dry!...I dread putting the top down on my briths cars...you have to either put it down and keep it down for the season, or leave it up.

Takes everything I got to get my top up or down by myself! I hate it too. Someone needs to make an electric up/down conversion for these cars, they'd make a bejillion dollars!
