top seal?

Tried to install the new seal one the roof today. Got it in the grooves ok. But no way, I mean NO WAY was I going to get the roof latches to close. With the roof just resting on the top of the windscreen frame there was a 1/2 - 1 inch gap across the center third of the window, while on the outer portions it rested on the frame. It was getting late and had to stop so I removed it and put the old one back so I could close it up for the night . The old one sits flush across the whole frame. Is there a right way and a wrong way to put this seal on, and if not how the heck do you compress the new seal so the roof latches??

Pictures!!

But... sounds like one of the following has to be true. Either a) the old seal was completely crushed at either end, or b) the new seal isn't in at the middle.

The latches are adjustable, and the new seal is definitely going to be thicker, so they'll need loosening...

after some investigation, it appears that the new crop of top seals are not very useable. AT least the ones from one of our usual suppliers. It appears the new seals are extruded as opposed to formed and as a result are thicker and firmer. They will therefore not compress properly when and if you can do the latches up. A supplier here in Canada tried manufacturing the same way the originals were done and they failed. As a result they have stopped carrying theses items.

NOS anybody???

The one I got from VB a couple of years ago was a bear to use at first. It was a chore to latch the top everytime I had to put it back up. Finally after a couple of years the seal has worn in enough that it really isn't too difficult anymore.
