I know some of you in the US get to see the UK Top Gear prog, look out for the last one of the most recent series (shown in the UK in Nov/Dec '05) as it features a Sprite and a highly modified Peugeot 306 running up Prescott hillclimb.
It was a close thing, I won't spoil it by telling you the result!
I have no idea how long you have to wait until you see it though.

Re: Top Gear - something for you to look forward t

Someone posted a link to it on another BBS. I'll see if I can find it.

This was a great show, but it ssems to have been removed from my local cable TV channel (Discovery).
Does anyone get this show in North America anymore?

I follow this show here in the USA, using some [cough] roundabout means available through the internet. Go here:

While I can't condone any illegal download software /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif, if you are interested there are Bittorrent downloads available of pretty much all of the episodes from the last few years. A great show. The recent piece mentioned above was pretty nice--the Bugeye used sounded supercharged to my ears!

The link worked great, 39.99 meg, 4 min download.

Super stuff.

I can't seem to find what to click on when I get to the site.

Ha ha, it says download right in the middle almost.

I saw that episode at a Friend's house recently (he picked it up on Bittorent) and it was a good laugh!

I'd be curious to see what the frogeye had under the hood, since it certainly sounded blown/turbo'd!

Is this it - Top Gear - Season 7, Episode 6 - 2005.12.27 [348.37 MB] ?

That was a great sounding Bugeye. Don't they all sound like that. With my old ears it is hard to tell for sure. Hehe.

Upon viewing that most excellent video, I'm pretty sure that the mechanical sound you think may be a blower (because of underbonnet shots) is most likely a straight-cut gearbox. As they claim 130 HP at the flywheel, I'd imagine that's an amazingly tuned 1275. I also noticed that it ran a 40 or 45 DCOE carb. That also tends to enhance the induction noise (let me tell you!). Definitely a screaming machine.

That's the episode, in the downloads section. You'll need a Bittorrent client of some sort as well. Grab it and enjoy. I went on a spree recently and grabbed them all. Fun show, well worth seeing.

Besides, a Bugeye on a modern car show? How cool!

Yea, I saved it and intend to watch it a few more times.
