If you have a MkII Sprite (MkI Midget) and use a Bugeye top bows could you use the Bugeye brackets to hold the bows in place and then use these bows as a tonneau bar? Theoretically it should work, has anyone tried it?

You would need the sockets behind the seats to hold the bow's but I agree it should work. The bows for a BE do move around quite a bit unless they are strapped at the top though.
